Research

The Bittl group focuses on the application of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy.

Using this technique, we study paramagnetic species in proteins. We aim at developing a molecular understanding of the principles leading to the functionality of proteins.

We further apply EPR techniques to investigate fundamental processes in solar cells on the microscopic level.

Beside the application of EPR spectroscopy we are working on method development. We are aiming at enhancing the sensitivity of EPR in order to expand the class of samples accessible to magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

An overview about the current research activities can be found in the section research.

Have a look at our EPR spectrometers and further scientific equipment in the instrumentation section.

A Part of Berlin Joint EPR Lab

Our lab is part of the recently founded Berlin Joint EPR Lab (BeJEL), which links the EPR research activities of the AG Risse (Fachbereich Chemie), the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (Institute for Silicon Photovoltaics) and our group.
