Vacancy PhD student - biophysics, photosynthesis, evolution

Right now we are looking for a PhD candidate for a biophysical research project. The candidate will start his PhD work with financial support provided by the SFB 1078 in form of a a one-year probation fellowship and subsequently may continue his PhD research as a (non-permanent) scientific employee.

Are you interested? If yes, please contact Prof. Holger Dau by means of an e-mail with an attached motivation statement and CV.

Vacancy Postdoc position - X-ray spectrocopy, new synchrotron experiment

IN-SITU-XAS project − non-permanent scientific employee until end of June 2019

Research and technical development of "operando" X-ray spectroscopy experiments on catalyst materials for sustainable production of non-fossil (solar) fuels

A creative scientist is sought with expertise in (i) X-ray spectroscopy with synchrotron radiation or (ii) computer programming (for automated data acquisition and control of complex physical experiments).

A doctoral degree (PhD) in physics, physical chemistry, material sciences or a similar area is required.

We offer integration in our research team at the Free University Berlin, ample experimental opportunities at the Berlin synchrotron radiation source (BESSY) and an interesting research project in the exciting scientific atmosphere of Berlin.

For more details, see "FU Stellenanzeiger 18.12.2017" (in German) or contact Prof. Holger Dau:

Application for PostDoc fellowships

We will support applications for a PostDoc fellowship (e.g., the prestigious and well-funded PostDoc fellowships of the "Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation") provided the applicant:

  • holds a PhD in physics, chemistry or biology (or will get his PhD within the next 8 months),

  • is able to communicate in English efficiently,

  • is scientifically highly qualified (as proven by several excellent publications in international journals),

  • has specific experience in a research area or experimental method related to the research interest of our group (e.g., photosynthesis, solar fuels, water oxidation, X-ray spectroscopy)

  • is highly interested in biophysical research or energy research (solar fuels)

  • is highly motivated, and intends to promote his/her academic career by a PostDoc stay in our lab at the Free University in Berlin.
