An interesting quantum hall state at filling factor 5/2 has been proposed theoretically as a candidate for topologically protected quantum bits. Here we discuss tunneling experiments aimed at measuring the charge and interaction parameter of the elementary excitations.  So far, results are consistent with, but certainly do not establish, that the quasiparticles lying above the 5/2 ground state are those anticipated theoretically and which would then carry non-abelian particle statistics.
