Thema der Dissertation:
Ab-initio Simulations of Transient Response Functions
Abstract: Understanding and controlling matter on ultrafast time scales (attoseconds to femtoseconds), is a major challenge in modern condensed matter physics. This thesis develops theoretical approaches based on time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) to connect simulations of ultrafast electronic and spin dynamics with experimentally measurable quantities.
The work investigates ultrafast magnetic dynamics in materials such as Co and CoPt, where theoretical transient magnetic circular dichroism spectra show excellent agreement with experimental measurements. It further develops methods to characterize and control laser-driven electronic excitations in two-dimensional materials, including graphene and monolayer WSe₂. In particular, the work demonstrates how tailored laser pulses can be used to control spin- and valley-dependent excitations in WSe₂. Overall, the thesis provides theoretical tools for understanding and controlling ultrafast electronic and spin dynamics in quantum materials.
