Non-equilibrium Behaviours and Fluctuation Corrections to the HiggsMode in Superconductors
Abstract: In theories with spontaneously broken U (1) symmetry, collective modes emerge as elementary excitations. In superconductors, the would-be phase mode is lifted to the plasma frequency via the Anderson-Higgs mechanism, leaving the amplitude mode as the lowest-energy collective excitation.
In this presentation, I will explain the behaviour of the Higgs mode in superconductors, especially in the presence of fluctuation corrections. Our work demonstrates that, while mean-field descriptions predict a square-root divergence of the Higgs mode, quantum fluctuations shift the Higgs mode inside the pair-breaking continuum and reveal its pole. This leads to a significant enhancement of the spectroscopic signature of the Higgs mode.
