M.Sc. Antreas Vorkas
Hey hey, my name is Antreas and I am currently a doctoral student at AG Schlesinger since February 2019. I was born and raised in Cyprus. My journey starts in 2010, where I moved to Greece and obtain my B.Sc. Chemistry. After enjoying the sun and the beach for some time, in 2015 I decided to move once more, this time to Berlin, not only for the great parties, but also to obtain, in 2018, my M.Sc. Chemistry at Freie Universität Berlin.
Biophysics always fascinated me. It is simply amazing on so many levels from pathways to behaviors, from single atom to multi-molecules interactions. Therefore, with my Chemistry background and my interest in Biology I started this interdisciplinary project under the roof of Physics.
I belong to the UniSysCat – Unified Systems in Catalysis, Research Unit E: Signal-Controlled Multicomponent Catalysis.

Doktorand
Antreas Vorkas, born 1992 in Larnaca, Cyprus
2010 – 2015 Bachelor of Science Chemisty, University of Ioannina, Greece
2015 – 2018 Master of Science Chemistry, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany
My research focuses on generation of membrane protein samples to study voltage- and mechano- gated catalysis. Main goal is the elucidation of mechanistic details of the voltage-gated proton channel kHv1 (Karlodinim Veneficum) and the mechano-sensitive channel MscL (E.Coli) for potential coupling to enzymatic processes. That is simply translated, from DNA, expression, purification, activity tests, electrophysiology, structural studies and so many more. Just stay tuned.
