Welche Faktoren fördern und hindern die „Science Identity“ und das „Sense of belonging“ von Studierenden, insbesondere von benachteiligten Minoritäten, im universitären Kontext/Studium? In diesem Seminar erwirbst du grundlegende theoretische Kenntnisse zu diesen Konzepten. Darüber hinaus entwickelst und realisierst du eigene Initiativen und Projekte, die darauf abzielen, Zugehörigkeit und wissenschaftliche Identität zu stärken. Zum Abschluss des Seminars werden die Projekte sowie die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse präsentiert und gemeinsam diskutiert. |

| Description: What does gender have to do with natural sciences such as physics? When closely analysing the histories, cultures, practices and contents of the natural sciences, it becomes visible that gender and other social inequalities have an impact on the physical as well as on other natural sciences: from the underrepresentation of women in some sciences to gender differences in career outcomes up to gendered constructions in scientific theories, gender is relevant in various contexts of science. The course introduces to approaches, concepts and methods of Gender Studies for the natural sciences, putting a special focus on the physical sciences. The seminar is aimed at students of physics and other natural sciences. Interested students of the humanities and social sciences are also welcome. | ||||

| Description: Science and technology are closely interwoven with society: Scientific findings are conveyed to an interested public in various formats of science communication. Citizen Science projects enable non-scientists to participate in research, e.g. in astronomy or biodiversity research. In special cases, citizens can even contribute their opinions to political decision-making processes on technologies that may affect people's health issues, pose environmental risks or have an impact on social problems. Examples are nuclear technologies, certain biotechnologies or impacts of digital technologies. All these developments raise questions: Which images of science and new technologies are conveyed to the public? How much should the public know about science and emerging technologies? Should citizens have more say in scientific research and technological developments, e.g. on the funding of research or the implementation of risky technologies? Should scientists be responsible for potential consequences of their research, e.g. in risky technological applications? These questions will be discussed in the seminar on the basis of studies from the research field of Science & Technology Studies (STS). Participants have the opportunity to work on selected short projects of their own interest. | ||||

| Description: In the research colloquium, we will discuss current topics from the Gender and Science Studies on physics. Participants are invited to present and discuss their research papers or projects as work-in-progress and to bring in individual research interests and topics. In the first unit we will decide jointly on themes and topics to be discussed. | ||||
