M.Sc. Fucsia Crea
Hello, my name is Fucsia. I studied for my bachelor degree in physics in Trento, in the Italian Alps, then moved to Berlin to study biophysics for my Master's degree. Under the supervision of Joachim Heberle and Kenichi Ataka I studied the photosensitive protein Sensory Rhodopsin II with Surface Enhanced InfraRed Spectroscopy (SEIRAS). In the same group, I'm now working on a different project as a PhD student: I activate a mechanosensitive ion channel (MscL) with light, using photo-active lipids that can exert tension upon illumination. I apply mostly Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) IR spectroscopy, but I also measure lateral pressure in the lipid monolayer with a Langmuir trough or test the functionality of the protein with a mini electrophysiological setup.
