Pathways in Physics: Quantum Communication, Biophysics & AI - Dr. Daniel Vajner, Teresa Heinen & Dr. Tim Hempel

Three physics alumni will share their journeys in physics and professional life. Everyone who would like to learn from our alumni or reconnect with them is warmly invited.
The event will conclude with an informal get-together over snacks and drinks.
Dr. Daniel A. Vajner

Dr. Daniel Vajner is a quantum communication expert who studied in Berlin and Paris with degrees in Physics and Business Administration. He is now leading the start-up company AQLS, that turns quantum optics experiments into real applications.
My Advice to Future Physicists
Physics studies and science are team efforts. Working through problems together is the most fun.Amelie Teresa Heinen

Teresa Heinen works as a project manager at the globally operating company wpd, which develops and operates wind and solar parks.
Hi, I'm Teresa, and I completed my Master's degree in Physics a year ago. I started studying physics right after finishing high school and completed both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Freie Universität Berlin, specializing in biophysics.
For the research phase of my Master's program, which was my second year, I spent time in the United States at Stanford University. I'm looking forward to talking with you about my journey through studying physics and sharing my experiences.
My Advice to Future Physicists
The Pomodoro Technique helped me a lot, especially during exam periods, but also when writing lab reports.Dr. Tim Hempel

Dr. Tim Hempel earned his PhD in computational molecular biophysics and now works at Microsoft Research AI for Science on AI-based biomolecular emulation.
My Message to Future Physicists
Studying physics compresses centuries of accumulated research into just a few years. Feeling lost from time to time is simply part of the process.Time & Location

About Pathways in Physics
In the online talk series for students of physics, different speakers will talk about their own pathway in physics: why they became physicists, how they recognized what their interests in physics were and how they went about getting positions in research and industry. We invite speakers from the Department of Physics, different research institutions as well as from various industries.
What comes after graduation?
The Career Service prepares students for entering the job market.
