100 Years of Spin: The Evolution of Quantum Control
New Science Advances publication co-authored by quantum physicist Professor Christiane Koch traces the development of optimal quantum control.
News from Sep 17, 2026
How can quantum systems be brought into a desired state as quickly and precisely as possible – and what are the limits? These are the questions addressed by an international research team including quantum physicist Professor Christiane Koch of Freie Universität Berlin in a review article, “Optimal control of spin systems,” published in the journal Science Advances.
On the 100th anniversary of the discovery of spin, the researchers trace the development of so-called optimal quantum control – from nuclear magnetic resonance and the targeted control of atoms and molecules to potential applications in quantum computers.
