Physics Education

At our department, two groups research a wide range of issues in the didactics of physics. Both groups are active in the Dahlem School of Education and are committed to the research-based development of teacher training in Berlin.

Research Group Kubsch

Prof. Dr. Marcus Kubsch

Prof. Dr. Marcus Kubsch

Prof. Dr Marcus Kubsch's research group has been working at Freie Universität Berlin since 2023.

The research focuses on the interface between competence development research, learning analytics and curriculum development. The goal is to optimally support learners in digitally supported teaching-learning environments with the help of artificial intelligence methods.

The work covers both school-based learning and learning in higher education (especially teacher's training). In addition, the group researches productive handling of uncertainty within the framework of exploratory learning and the further development of subject didactic research methodology.

Prof. Dr. Volkhard Nordmeier

The research group of Prof. Dr. Volkhard Nordmeier has been conducting research at the Free University of Berlin since 2005.

The research focuses on (empirical) teaching-learning research on the didactics of physics and development research in the areas of new media/digitalisation and on aspects of modern (school) physics.

The research projects focus, among other things, on the professionalisation of teachers and the acquisition of professional knowledge (e.g. in teaching-learning laboratories), competence modelling and measurement, academic success/drop-out research, aptitude research, and usability research (eye tracking)
