Advanced Laboratory Course for Master's Students

This lab course is a compulsory course for all Master students in physics.

The aim is to get some insights into experiments that are (loosely) connected to the research done at the department of physics. Furthermore, you will learn how to carry out measurements, analyze data, understand sources of errors, collaborate with other people, write a lab report and present your results.

The course is divided into two parts.

Part 1: Experiments

In one of them you carry out experiments, analyze the data and prepare the report. The first experiment will be done by each student separately. After passing this, teams of two will be formed and another five experiments have to be passed in this team. The usual dates for the experimental sessions are Wednesdays 10 am -6 pm.

Part 2: Seminar Series

The second part consists of a seminar series. After introductory sessions by the instructors, each student needs to present one experiment in front of their peers. Before the presentation, rehearsals are mandatory. The seminar takes place Tuesdays 2-4 pm in Lecture Hall A in Arnimallee 14.

Procedures and Materials

Details of all procedures and requirements for passing the course will be given in the first meeting on Tuesday 14.4.2026. All course materials will be posted in Whiteboard.
