The it systems of the mathematics and computer science department and the physics department are managed by a joint IT division IMP-IT. We support the scientifics staff and department divisions in planning, obtaining and running their IT systems.

Since standard services like email, web servers and networking are managed centrally by FU we concentrate on the special requirements of the physics department. In the case of experimental physics the focus is on the experimental setups and electronics needed to control them, whereas for theoretical physics it is in the use and development of scientific software and numerical simulations. For this purpose we run a central HPC cluster, that is open to all the department's employees, a Gitlab server for version control and scientific collaboration and numerous other services.

Furthermore we manage the Linux and Windows desktop machines and a Linux computer pool for the students of the department
