Preparatory Course to the Advanced Master Laboratory
Winter Semester 2022/23
This laboratory course addresses master students who did not have laboratory courses equivalent to the basic and intermediate laboratory courses, which are part of the bachelor studies at FU Berlin. As its title already reflects, the course does not replace the Advanced Laboratory Course for Master Students, but rather gives the students the possibility to get used to the whole procedure of preparing, performing and evaluating scientific experiments as well as communicating their results.
The Preparatory Course to the Advanced Master Laboratory is considered in the Master’s study program as a module “Modern Methods in Experimental Physics A”. It comprises an introduction to data evaluation and 4 experiments of the intermediate lab.It is completed by an oral exam of 30 min.

Note | Instructions for Lab and Radiation Safety: 31.10.2022 at 14:00 in lecture hall A Participation is mandatory for taking a laboratory course! |
The course starts with the instruction to lab and radiation safety which is mandatory for all participants of master lab courses.
Before starting with experiments, there will be an introductory meeting to this course and a lecture plus short exercise on data evaluation.
In groups of 2 or 3 persons, the students will perform 4 experiments, evaluate the data and write reports. The experiments will be scheduled for Thursdays, 10am to 7pm, starting with a preparatory discussion. The students should contact the respective tutors of their experiments well in advance.
The experiments will be performed in presence in the laboratories at the physics building.
The dates for the introductions, the lab calendar as well as further resources for the material will be provided on whiteboard. So please check tjere regularly for updates.
Within the Advanced Master Lab, there is an introduction to Good Scientific Practice offered. We strongly recommend to participate there also for the Preparatory Course to the Advanced Master Lab (dates given below).
