Study Start - Orientation for New Masters Students of Physics

A Warm Welcome to All Newly Enrolled Students of Physics!

Between 8-18 October, the Physics Master Orientation will take place. These two weeks are full of both fun social activities and lots of useful information! An approximate schedule can be found below. This page will be updated when more information is available, so keep an eye out for the specifics.

Week 1

Bar Night

Tuesday, 8 October at 7:30 pm. “Syndikat” in Emser Str. 131, 12051 Berlin

You will get to know Berlin bar culture and have some drinks and chats. Bring cash!


Board Game Night

Wednesday, 9 October from 6 to 11 pm; Department of Physics, Cafeteria (room 1.1.25)

Join us for a real “Brettspielabend”! Everyone can bring their favourite board gamesm along with some drinks and snacks.


Picnic at the Lake

Thursday, 10 October at 3 pm; metro station U Krumme Lanke 

Bring swimming clothes, sheet, drinks and snacks and join us for a nice picnic at the lake.

Cancelled in case of rain :(


Movie Night

Friday, 11th October from 7 to 10 pm; Department of Physics, lecture hall B (room 0.1.01)

We order pizza together and watch a movie!

Monday, 14 October from 12:15 pm to 1:15 pm, Department of Physics, Lecture Hall B (room 0.1.01)

Prof. Bolotin welcomes new students and introduces the Department. You will meet some of its representatives and receive further information about your program as well as physics research at Freie Universität Berlin!


Breakfast

Tuesday, 15 October from 10 am to 12 pm; Department of Physics, Cafeteria (room 1.1.25)

Join us for a free breakfast with other first-year students!


General Information Session: Fundamentals of Studying in Berlin

Wednesday, 16 October from 2:30 to 3:30 pm; Department of Physics, departmental room (room 1.1.16)

Späti-Run

Friday, 18 October at 7:30 pm. Meet at metro station U Hermannplatz

Späties (late-night shops) are essential when it comes to Berlin night life. You will learn how the Berlin Späti-Culture works!

Preparatory Course to the Advanced Master Laboratory

Master Students who have not passed extended introductory courses to laboratory experiments during their Bachelor studies are strongly recommend this course before entering the Advanced Master Laboratory.

Digital Tools: Campus Management & Co.

You will need some digital tools to organize your studies.

Mandatory registration: At the beginning of each semester, students register for courses, internships, exams and examinations using in the Campus Management System.
