Open positions
We are hiring postdoctoral researchers and PhD students to join a strong research team. We can provide a uniquely stimulating and fun research environment driven by discussion, interaction, and collaboration, with substantial blackboard time. We are a highly active research group with a culture of open discussion, creative interdisciplinary thought and substantial international collaborations. The successes of past group members possibly speak for themselves when one has a career planning in mind.
Applications are strongly and warmly invited. All job related questions and inquiries should be sent to both jense@physik.fu-berlin.de and applicationsqmio@gmail.com (please do not forget the latter).
Postdoctoral and PhD positions in quantum information theory
We can offer a postdoctoral and a PhD research position on mathematical quantum information theory. Possible topics are notions of computational complexity, quantum computational models, the mathematics of near-term quantum computing, notions of randomness, group theoretical applications, and ideas of learning and learnability.
Postdoctoral and PhD positions on tensor networks
Tensor networks are a data structure that capture natural correlations in typical complex quantum systems, and can at the same time also be applied to notions of probabilistic modelling and Hamiltonian learning. We provide substantial method development to describe quantum systems in higher dimensions and continuous quantum fields. We also explore methods of classically simulating quantum computers with tensor networks. We offer a postdoctoral and a PhD research position in this field of study.
Postdoctoral and PhD positions in quantum error correction
Quantum computers will presumably not work scalably without employing quantum error correction. In the light of recent experimental successes, quantum error correction is again moving into the center of attention. We offer a postdoctoral and a PhD research position on quantum error correction. Possible topics are concerned with the development of new codes and decoders or with abstract notions of quantum error correction interfacing with condensed matter physics.
Postdoctoral and PhD positions on quantum simulation and quantum computing
We are also in the position to offer an attractive postdoctoral and a PhD position on quantum simulation and quantum computing within the German quantum hardware call. In the focus of attention are ideas of protocol development, notions of computational power of quantum simulators, of fermion to spin mappings, of applications in quantum chemistry, and of their verification, including shadow estimation techniques. We collaborate here with experimental leaders of the field, such as Immanuel Bloch, Christian Gross, Thomas Monz and Rainer Blatt.
Humboldt and Marie-Curie fellowships
The group has a strong tradition in hosting Humboldt and Marie Skłodowska Curie fellows. In particular the first program is highly recommendable, includes hardly any bureaucracy and funds excellent people smoothly. If interested, send an email to jense@physik.fu-berlin.de and applicationsqmio@gmail.com.
Master- and Bachelor theses
If you are interested in joining us on a Master or Bachelor level, please again send an email and append a short CV including grades and main interests, again to applicationsqmio@gmail.com.
