The program prepares doctoral students to take on junior positions in universities, research institutions and in public or private institutions for which a special scientific qualification is required.

Compulsory components of the program are discussions with the supervisory team, regular participation in a research colloquium or seminar, and the annual presentation of one's research work. Courses on good scientific practice and diversity dimensions are also mandatory.

In seminars and workshops doctoral students will also learn skills beyond scientific qualitites such as knowledge transfer, scientific integrity, and science and research management. In addition, participants will be trained in science-related foreign languages as well as gender and diversity aspects.

"In providing this knowledge, we help PhD students to avoid scientific misconduct and to reflect on their actions concerning diversity and discrimination," explains Roland Netz, professor of theoretical physics and deputy speaker of the program.
