In previous years, applications for Master’s programs starting in the summer semester were accepted between December 15 and February 15. International prospective students used the uni-assist portal to apply to Freie Universität Berlin.

In 2025, the application procedure was adjusted: Applicants now use uni-assist exclusively to apply for the Preliminary Review Documentation (in German: VPD). Once the VPD has been issued, applicants submit their documents directly via the application portal of Freie Universität Berlin. As part of this change, the regular application period for the summer semester was shortened and has since ended on January 15.

In recent weeks, we have received numerous messages from prospective students who were still orienting themselves on the previous deadline of February 15 and therefore missed the new application deadline.

Additional Application Period for the Master’s Program for the Summer Semester 2026

Due to the high demand, we will reopen the application portal on a one-time basis from February 18 to February 28, 2026. This will give all qualified applicants the opportunity to begin their Master’s studies in the summer semester 2026.

Application for the Winter Semester 2026/27

The next regular application period will run from April 15, 2026, to August 15, 2026. International prospective students should note that the Preliminary Review Documentation (VPD) must be requested on uni-assist at least six weeks before the application deadline in order to avoid delays.
