Abstract:
The spin state pattern of spin switchable iron(II) complexes of bis(pyrazolyl)pyridine ligands and with a variety of substituents were studied by scanning tunneling microscopy at room temp. The transition between high spin and low spin states was studied by magnetic susceptibility. This nicely conforms to the bulk magnetic measurements, which show the mols. to be in the HS state independent of temp. The significant difference in mol. cond. between the spin states of iron(II) holds considerable promise for new concepts in high-d. data storage.
