Quantum Future Award 2024: Prof. Dr. Jens Eisert and PhD Student Maximilian Kramer

Maximilian Johannes Kramer (Eisert’s Group) has been awarded first prize in the "Quantum Future Award 2024" competition for his outstanding master's thesis. This prize, sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), honors innovative scientific work in the field of quantum technologies.

News from Dec 03, 2024

Maximilian Kramer completed his master's thesis, titled "On Quantum Algorithms for Satisfiability Problems," in the research group of Prof. Dr. Jens Eisert. In his thesis, located at the interface of physics and computer science, he suggests a novel quantum algorithm for an industrially relevant problem. This algorithm has an appealing self-correcting property and is hardware-friendly, making it useful on near-term quantum computers.

He presented this approach in a 3 minute pitch at the "Quantum Future Award 2024" ceremony on December 2, 2024. The event took place at the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Berlin and was live-streamed.

The jury acknowledged the strong practical relevance of Kramer's theoretical thesis and awarded him first prize, which includes €6,000 earmarked for study-related travel.

Kramer intends to use the prize money to visit international collaborators in Singapore or Amsterdam. He hopes these exchanges will spark fresh ideas and inspire new directions in his doctoral research.

“This recognition is an incredible milestone for me! I am excited to continue exploring the fascinating world of quantum computing as a doctoral student under Jens Eisert. In my research, it is important to me to connect rigorous mathematical results with applications,” said Kramer.
